I truly envy Sleeping Beauty

Slept for 100 years. Aaaaaah. Imagine that! Yes, I let ANOTHER day go buy without a blog, or reading blogs and  feel slack and guilty. I know I have awards to accept too. I suck :( Im going to try to catch up now, if Fatboy and assorted other children co-operate.

I fully intended to post last night, it was a full-on all-day spent chasing those horrible boys around why do they run when i follow them sitting nicely with the boys ,watching the girls run , wasting all my $$ on crap food eating delicious tuckshop food , sweating like pigs enjoying the sunny day, acquiring the most stupid sunglasses sunburn I look like ive been wearing goggles becoming tan and  watching Fatboy fall over about a thousand times try out his new shoes.

All in all a good day, many ribbons and much fun. Then… disaster struck. My beloved Sonny the Sony. Got STOOD ON!!! AND CRACKED THE LCD SCREEN!!! I am not ashamed to say i cried hysterically was quite upset. So, now to get the poor boy repaired. He still works, but he is in pain:(

I miss posting pictures, and Julie is suffering babylegs withdrawals. So…….

and this was sports day…

Since I suck im going to make it up to you. Stay tuned for another tim tam giveaway. Im writing it now and will schedule it to post tomorrow morning. Good luck, my mates !

Id like to thank the academy

Ok, I started this post on Tuesday, but I guess all those thoughts/prayers kicked in, because I have just finished a 3day vomiting streak (too much information Im sure… sorry)  that involves lying comatose on the lounge watching the entire season of Gossip Girl, between trips to the bathroom. Eating is not necessary (dont worry my record is 6 days with the Fatboy) So bear with me my stalkers faithful readers.

Feeling better today, but now have to go to Inter-School Sports Day. I will have the camera out though, which I have not done for days so will try and post again later… After a visit to Krispy Kremes, which I just saw a huge sign for at the service station on the way to hubbys work( I nearly crashed I was so excited) Also forced myself to go to the Target Toy sale last night, I felt horrible and couldn't be bothered standing in the layby line, therefore spent $500 on toys! But now its done! How organised am I , haha!

So, back to my 4 days in the makings post….

I got this

Not My Kid Monday

A twist on Not Me Monday, courtesy of MckMama

That is NOT MY KID taking photos of herself on her mobile with too much eyeliner.

Well, Cara is not almost a teenager- cos that would make me,um, never mind… She does not hate me mentioning anything to do with puberty or even SAYING the word puberty. She did not join facebook when she was at a sleepover, and when I found out she did not have to add me (yep, dorky old mum) as a friend so I can check on her! She did not dump her ‘boyfriend’ like this

Boy: Hi, Cara?

Cara: Oh, hi, youre dumped.

She did not tell me it was because he had been texting her friend, and I did not have to stifle a giggle. She is not giving me grey hair…

That is NOT MY KID groaning and crying on the floor because they dont want to feed the dogs

Dakota (I have to tell you this because it was the worst not my kid moment but apologies in advance) did not once, at the age of 5, proclaim in the middle of CHRISTMAS DINNER WITH ALL MY FAMILY “My mum and Dad had sex last night” ( I swear to you it was not true!!!) I was not mortified! Dakota does not do this awful noise whenever I ask her to do something lately. It does not kinda go like “Urrrrrgggghhhhh” It is not extremely irritating!

She did not make a  “Fairy House” with Rani to attract / trap fairies (despite not actually believing in fairies) and she did not write a tiny note to my mum that said

“Dear Karen, this is the fairy queen. We cant make it so can you remove the food and note from Ranis fairy house she made”

so Rani would think the fairies had been.

I did not think it was so sweet!

That is NOT MY KID sitting sulking outside in the driveway because her older sisters are at sleepovers

Rani did not get yelled at all weekend. She does not constantly torment and provoke her brothers and sisters then cry so they get in trouble. She does not hate having her hair brushed/combed  and did not spend the entire school holidays with bed hair and when school went back she did not scream like  a banshee when the knots were combed out.

She does not stay up late insisting “Im not tired!” and does not have to be physically dragged, kicking and screaming ,out of bed for school. She does not have a favourite pair of shorts that she wears constantly, washed or not. She was not angry at me last night (bedtime again)and did not write me a note that said

You used to be nice and now your mean. Im stealing your slippers. From Rani.

That is NOT MY KID you see chucking a tantrum in the Hotwheels aisle despite owning about 1 million cars already.

Jai did not claim the toddler bed that I had intended for Fatboy. He did not dress up as Hulk last week and did not insist “You play Hulk too mummy” We did not play Hulk all day complete with jumping, throwing and roaring.

He is not at that stage where he points out  (this is so not a list of things he actually HAS pointed out at various shops)  any sort of prosthetic, bald people, chubby people, pimply people etc. I am not constantly hissing “Be quiet Jai!” He did not once say at the grocery shop checkout “ Look at that lady's huge muscles” which were in fact, not muscles but rather large “bingo arms”

He did not wear the same clothes for 2 almost 3 days ( I would NEVER let my kid do that) because he has developed a bath aversion. I did not finally hold him down and strip him off and put him in the bath. He did not then refuse to get out.

He would not play the ps2 24 hours a day if I let him.

That is NOT MY KID you see screaming in terror because  a strange man  with a beard smiled at him

Fatboy is not obsessed with “My 1st Baby Animal Book” He does not insist on reading it 600 times a day and does not call all the animals ‘cow’ or ‘quack-quack’

He did not come up to me this morning and say “Yuck. Bumped” which does not apparently mean “grab a peg and  a nappy, I reek” He did not proceed to grab the nappy and smear the contents on himself, the floor, the door and assorted clothing. He did not think it was soooo funny!

He has not developed this ear piercing screech that he does whenever he doesnt get his own way.

He does not sit on my lap and grope down my shirt saying “tittie” He does not try and force me to go to bed so I can feed him. He does not scream “NONONONO” if I try and give him a bottle.

He does not love his babylegs as much as mummy does and does not say “Woohooo” whenever he gets dressed:)

(Seriously, I could go on and on haha but it already makes us sound pretty messed up!)

A lot of waiting and hoping going on

School went back on Tuesday, officially 1 day later the kids happily  told me “Mum one of the kids in Rani’s class has Swine Flu, he’s in hospital” Nice. We have our ‘information letter’ its really not that informative.  Wait and hope the kids dont get it.

There's also a Whopping Cough outbreak here. Wait and hope.

Had a house inspection, which means I am frantically cleaning from dawn until sleep for 3 days. Not so much waiting and hoping, (The house was SPOTLESS) but stressful all the same:)

(Im sneaking this in) Well, officially 4 weeks ‘late’. Walking on eggshells, ( after 4 angel babies I never feel secure) yet still having so much normal stuff that has to be done. 2am vomiting  has never been so welcome, still, lots of WAIT and HOPE there! ( also lots of HOPE the family will actually congratulate me, for once)

And hubby found out yesterday, after all year of 2 day shifts because there isnt enough work, that after next weekend he will either

a) move to night shift, Monday to Thursday or

b) have no job

So, waiting on their decision  and hoping he still has a job! He has been there 10 years, I am hoping that counts for something!

Ugh. Thats it, the end of my ‘my life sucks this week’ rant!

Heres Fatboy and the snake, please bear in mind it is non-venomous:)  Oh, and me and my boys are going to DARWIN!!! In September! Since the only time Ive ever been out of QLD was 3 times to visit my sister in Sydney, Im pretty excited. Jai on the other hand apparently thinks he will ‘fall outta dat plane’ and is planning on ‘hiding from you mummy’ Hope he changes his mind!

10 on the 10th

My beloved 10 on the 10th- go on join in:)

I am greeted when I open my eyes , by this.

I christen it Mt Washing, and it is conquered  by the end of the day.

I wash the new babylegs, I always hang fatboys stuff inside, I wash it in Softly, and it makes the whole house smell like a baby:)

I finally get Fatboy to sleep at 3.21pm. He has been up since 5.45am.

And I finally get a hot shower. Aaaaah.again-finally

While Fatboy sleeps, Rani and Jai jump off the table.

Fatboy wants a yoghurt upon waking.

“Spoon, you say? What is this ‘spoon’ you speak of?”

There's always  time for some brother-love:)brotherlylove

I don't think I'm obsessed with Babylegs really. Its not as though i went to the shop especially to get a cute basket to put them all in.

Oh, wait, yes I did:)

And now its 9pm, Fatboy is sleeping, in my/his bed. Im going to join him….Goodnight!

Loved your new bedding Kimber, dont you love how nothing whatsoever of mine matches!!

Pictures at the park

My question and answer post is below this one, if you make it all the way to the end, congratulations:)

Daddy and the kids (minus Cara) Of course I was making them all look into the sun.

“Ssssh dont alert the emus to our presence, they are vicious giant birds” is what i imagine he is saying!

Sigh. I love babylegs. Oh-so-much.

Daddys not too bad with the camera is he?

Dakota and Fatboy, matching outfits and all:)

You asked it….I answered it:)

How did you do the watermark on your photos?

I downloaded  Windows Live Writer. I LOVE it. You can add your blog to it, and it lets you change the size of the pictures, you can give the pic an alternate name (instead of jpeg22 etc), put a watermark on, schedule your posts (great for me who falls asleep with my clothes on) and heaps more.Really really easy to use!

What sort of camera and lenses do you use?

I use the Sony Alpha a300. I have 2 lenses at the moment,a 18-70mm and a 55-200mm . Lusting after  a macro lens and external flash:)

What's your favourite lens & why??

I love the newer lens, the 55-200mm. It gets those awesome blurred backgrounds, and has a bigger zoom, so I can get pics of the kids without having to be in their faces!

Why did you start blogging, it's not really common here.......??

Well, as Susan pointed out, its not really big here (Australia) . I was trying to create a photography website last year, tried a few, didn't like them, and then I found a blogspot blog one day -I think it was 4littlemen&girlytwins-(after the 50th ‘make my own website’ search) and joined up. Now, its more like an online journal. And I'm so glad I've found it, I have made some awesome friends!

With 5 kids what's your best ideas about dinners?

Um, start at 3.30pm? Seriously, especially in winter, our dinner is well on the way by 4pm. That way ,at 5pm, when everyone starts going “I'm  STARVING” I can just go “well, here you go!” I also love making things that will last for 2 nights . The girls help in the kitchen a fair bit too.

Why did you and your beloved wait to get married?

Hmmm good question. I guess we got together so young, we never really had the opportunity. And to be honest, neither of us felt the need. After we had Jai, I just thought ‘Bugger it’ and we planned it all in about 2 months, the whole thing cost us $1200 (about $880 US currency) My dress was rainbow coloured, and we had a one night honeymoon one year later!

Where did you get married?

The ceremony was in a park, and we had the reception in a little Italian restaurant.

Are boys or girls "easier"?

The girls were easier when they were babies, both my boys were demanding mummy's boys, but the girls are getting  harder as they get older:) (Cara’s preteen angst anyone?)

HOW do you keep up with laundry with 5 kids??

Ha. I do wash everyday (2- 3 loads a day) but have issues with folding. I usually have at least 2 baskets piled high until I have a cleaning binge and do it all at once. And yes, I have a tumble dryer but we only got one when we moved here about 6 months ago, because of the teeny tiny clothesline, that holds one load of towels and not much else!

When are you coming to visit me? (Kimber)

When I

a) win lotto

b) become an amazingly talented ,highly paid photographer

or c) save for a year or 2

How on earth do you keep your sanity with five kids? :)

Honestly, I can tune most noise out. That's my secret. Deafness. No, really,I don't really know. As I have said before, this is my life, I just do what needs to be done. And it seems normal to me. I don't think people with 1 or 2 kids have it ‘easier’ than me (I'm sure they wash less and buy less food though haha) and when all the kids aren't here, it feels like something is missing:)

How do you shop for five (food, clothes, etc)?

We shop every week, but do a HUGE shop one week, 3 grocery shops( i like to get the bargains) the butcher, and fruit shop. We spend about $250 a week (about  $200   in US currency) so i don't think we do too badly.  Clothes, i buy whenever we can. If  hubby works overtime or there is no bills for the week, we hit the shops, haha. I always have a list in my bag of stuff the kids need (this week i need to get all the back-to-school stuff) and tick it off as I get it. Sounds daggy, but works for me. The kids, honestly, are pretty spoilt, and don't miss out on much, although they may have to wait for it, and the girls (and Jai too, he saved $30 and bought himself the Hotwheels colour change car wash)usually save up for things they want.

What kind of meals do you make?

Lots of meat. I admire vegetarians, but whenever we go away, the first thing i want when we get home is STEAK!! This week we have eaten lasagne (for 2 nights) , a really really nice roast pork with roast vegetables,a big stew, we had scrambled eggs with bacon one night (cos i was lazy), and hubbys awesome homemade pizza (we ate that for lunch too). In summer, its mostly BBQs and salads.

How many times a day do you cook? (dinner only, lunch and dinner, all three meals?)?

I always cook dinner. I cook lunch through winter (its only usually the boys at home) I don't cook breakfast much (unless you count porridge?) But sometimes we do have pancakes, or donuts (healthy right? i said sometimes). I love cooking a dessert too:)

How do you and your husband find time to work on your marriage?

That is a hard one! We rarely get time alone, but usually watch tv or a movie after the kids have gone to bed. And I'm lucky that he works weekend shift, so he is home 4 days of the week. We talk a lot, about everything, he really is my best friend, dorky as that may sound! We were able to get away for a night of decadence for our anniversary last year (mmm, spa suite) and I hope we can do that again this year! Marriage can be hard, but we committed to each other forever, so I guess we are stuck with each other:) Seriously though, I can not even imagine my life without him, even when we argue and i just want to rip his head off get rather agitated, i still can not imagine us not being together.

How long have you been seriously taking pictures?

I always loved taking photos, whenever we had a baby, i would borrow my Nanas really great Konica camera. I only bought myself a half decent camera when Fatboy was 9 days old. I started with a digital Fuji, which I upgraded to another digital Fuji, the 8100( i still have it, great macro!) and finally bought myself a digital SLR ,my baby (Sonny the Sony) in December last year. I really hope I can make it (as a photographer) because its truly become my passion!

What are your religious and political views???

Honestly, we are not that religious. I pray ( more so since I started blogging- the miracle of Stellan! ), and the kids do, sometimes, but a lot of my family i feel are hypocritical in their religious beliefs and have looked down on us for various aspects of our lives (calling my children the ‘b word’ -as Jai says- because hubby and I were not married, for example, did not go down well!) which has turned me off a bit.. There is a few small churches near us, and we may start going, they have lots of kids activities etc. I believe in God, definitely, he looks after my angel babies until I can get to them. And there must be a god, although it sounds corny, I do feel so blessed in so many ways.

Political. Hmmm.(1st time ever someone has asked me about politics haha) Well, i certainly think Kevin Rudd is better for Australia than John Howard! And I would have voted for Obama, had I been an American. I would like the troops to come home too!!

What is your secret to a happy, healthy marriage? You have managed to beat all the odds staying married and having 5 children when starting at such a young age.

Its not always happy, and I think that the secret. Simon and I both know that life is hard, LOVE is hard but we are committed to each other, for ever. Good times and Bad. We fight (lots, haha we are both Leos, stubborn) and I have always taught the kids, that even though we love each other, we will not always get along. And even though we don't always get along, we are a FAMILY and we will ALWAYS be together.

I'd love to know what you "wish you'd known" especially with the oldest.

That you cant stop them growing up. No matter how hard you try.And it is so true that they are growing up faster than ever! I really wish we had not let Cara get a phone so young (but that was my brother , he bought her one for her birthday) and she has to be supervised on the computer AT ALL TIMES!! I wish i had known about the Bumbo, for the babies, and i always wished someone had of told me when Cara was born, “You dont HAVE to bath the baby EVERY single day”

When you're out in public, do people ever ask you if all the kids are yours? and then do they go on to say, "you do know what causes that, don't you?" and then do you think/say, "Uhh, no, I have no CLUE how I ended up w/all of these kids! They just started following me around!"

First of all, I love your response. We were at a party last year and one guy just kept saying “ Don't you own a TV?'” When hubby said, yes we own 2, just bought a huge monstrosity of one, he then switched to “ Lucky you just bought that TV,ha-ha” By the end of the night, I though hubby was going to explode:) My favourite comment, we just got a few weeks ago, a friend we hadn't seen for ages, looked at us all standing there, hubby and me surrounded by kids, laughed and said “Well, at least you know everything works!” It surely does:)

Did you plan your pregnancies?

I say, not planned, but not prevented. Obviously Cara was a shock (at 16),we did plan Dakota, and the others? Welcome surprises. 6, however, is my absolute limit, and hubby will get the snip after that (I'm sure he's thrilled I just blogged that)

How many siblings do you have? Are  you close? What is your place?

Im the oldest (28 almost 29) I have one crazy skydiving,divorced,snake-owning,tattooed,child-care working sister, Michelle, but we never call her that, she is ‘Belbie’  to us, who is 26, and one tattooed, harness racing driving, muscled up,dog owning, lolly buying (he goes to this lolly warehouse and brings home giant bags of lollies),Lily Allen loving, baby brother Steven (Stevie) who is 23 almost 24. We weren't really close when we were little, but are pretty close now. I know if I need someone, Belbie and Stevie will be there.

How did y’all decide to get a mini pony for a pet?

Aww, my Frodo. It was Christmas morning 2007, we hauled the kids out to mums, and here is this tiny little bulldoggy looking pony. Mum thought something was wrong with him, but it took a few days to figure out what it was. It was just after the EI (equine influenza) went through , and all of mums ponies and Dads horses had it. A lot of mums mares were pregnant, and Frodo was the only surviving foal of the 3 born so far. Anyway, after copious internet research, mum figured out he was a dwarf. So he cant be sold, as he has so many health issues. Of course, we claimed him! He has had 2 operations so far, to fix a hernia, and to straighten his front legs. He has to wear special shoes, big plastic ones, to help with the straightening. He is adorably chubby, and loving, and we are hoping to bring him to our house next month. At the moment he is at Mums, about 10 minutes down the road, and we visit him as much as we can. He loves to be loved:)

Whew. That was a big job, but I loved it! Thanks for the questions, any more, just ask:) School holidays are coming to an end, so if I have been slack in commenting on your blogs, I promise to catch up next week:)

What school holidays mean to me

School holidays are all about

Haircuts….from this

to this

 afterhaircut Cowboy pants

Nose picking

Dressing up

Bed hair and wearing dressing gowns until lunchtime ranibedhair

Finding Jai here

when I wake up!

Oh, and  this is the Neutrogena wave.facescrubber

Its a vibrating face scrubber. I bought it for Caras pre-teen oily skin, but have since claimed it for myself. I love, love, love it. And Fatboy hates, hates, hates it!!

Not Me Monday-on Tuesday

I have not been (as Kimber said) MIA all weekend. It is not school holidays here, I am not using the excuse that I have had 8 or 9 kids, 1 hubby, 3 dogs (baileys back)and 1 snake here, all wanting something. Well, the snake not so much but still. I do not feel like I have been gone for 100 years, when really its only been 3 days.

We did not take 5 kids to the Kmart toy sale. I did not have to stop hubby buying assorted things, he was not happy with the huge remote controlled car he got. He does not insist it is ‘for Jai’ and I do not think he is a big, fat, liar:) Rani did not have a tantrum for unknown reasons and then refuse to spend her Kmart card,it was not frustrating at all.

I did not cut Fatboys hair. He did not scream as though I was torturing him. I did not giggle a little at him screaming ‘OWWWWWW!!! OWWWWW!!!!OWWWWW’ when i had the clippers turned on, but not actually near his hair!

He is also not terrified of the Neutrogena wave, I do not turn it on sometimes just to get him out of the bathroom. (that doesnt sound mean at all does it)

Remember the time i asked Jai ‘Is that jelly up your nose?’ Well, I did not top that with “Jai, is that meatball in your eyebrow?’

I did not score 2 tickets to Britney Spears, seconds before they were sold out. I did not tell my brother it would be a ‘monumental moment in Australian history’ when he teased me ( Yep, Im 28 years old and still get teased by my baby brother. But as least he doesnt Karate kick me anymore)

I am not going to spend the next 2 hours reading blogs.I have not told Cara she is babysitting, she has not demanded more $$$ to go to the movies.I am not bribing her, Nope, not me!
